MACON, Ga. — Macon police said two officers rescued a man with Alzheimer’s disease who was found in a creek, clinging to a branch to avoid being pulled under water.

The Telegraph of Macon reports the man had fallen down and was in waist-deep water in Walnut Creek when officers found him.

Police said the 61-year-old man was examined by paramedics after being pulled from the water.

Authorities said the man’s wife had called police when her husband went missing Wednesday night. The officers knew the man enjoyed fishing on Walnut Creek, so they began searching the area and heard the man shout for help.
